There are two versions of WordPress.
- WordPress.org allows you to download the software and install it on your hosting account and you get complete control over how you use the software without any payment*.
- WordPress.com hosts the software for you and lets you build your own website for free but with limitations. In order to unlock additional features you have to pay more each month.
* If you get a website designer it developer to build a website for you, you will still have to pay them for their work but the WordPress software itself is free.
